Cutting Directions

Assembling the Units

Sew an Easy Angle triangle to the right side of a Companion Angle triangle. Press the seam towards the larger triangle.

Add an Easy Angle triangle to the left side of the unit. Press the seam towards the smaller triangle. (NOTE: It doesn't matter if the flat cut-off points of the triangles do not match up. These are the dog-ears that will be trimmed). Trim off the dog-ears.

Assemble 6 matching flying geese units for each diagonal in each block. Join them in groups of three. Add a Companion Angle triangle to the top of each group of three. Assemble a total of 48 units.

Assembling the Blocks
Lay out a block to arrange the colors. Add the large Companion Angle triangles to both sides of two flying geese units. Press the seams towards the large triangles. (NOTE: handle the large triangles carefully, as you are sewing a bias edge).

Sew a square between the remaining two flying geese units. Press the seams towards the square.

Join the three units to make a block, pressing the seams toward the large triangles. Make 12 blocks. The blocks can be trimmed square to 14 1/2".

Assembling the Quilt
Lay out the blocks in four rows of three blocks. Join the blocks in each row and press the seams OPEN. Join the rows of blocks, again pressing the seams open to reduce bulk.

Measure the quilt in several places across the width. Cut two borders to this length. Sew to the top and bottom of the quilt.

Measure the quilt several places through the length. Piece and cut two borders to this length. Sew to the sides of the quilt.

Finishing the Quilt
Cut a backing and batting 4" larger than the quilt top. Sandwich the three layers and baste. Quilt as desired. "Leaves Entwined", a Stitchable Stencil design, was quilted in the large triangle squares, and half a design was quilted in the side triangles in the quilt shown.

Bind with 2" double binding sewn with a 1/4" seam allowance.
