Cutting Kites and Pinwheels
NOTE: Both shapes are cut using size B on the Kite tool.
Place one short side of Kite tool along the bottom of the unfolded strip and cut. Flip tool over aligning short edge along top of strip and cut. Referring to illustration 1, cut forty-eight each of lights and darks. If using assorted colors, cut four kite shapes from each 6" x 18" piece.

Sewing
Illustration 2Place a light kite on top of a dark kite. Sew each pair with light kite on top (see illustration 2). It is not necessary to backstitch at beginning or end of seam.

Using a dry iron, press each seam toward the dark fabric. It is important to press after stitching each seam! Tip: Pressing from the right side will eliminate a fold forming near the seam.

Illustration 3Sew two pairs together pressing seam toward the dark fabric. Half block formed (see illustration 3).

Sew two half blocks carefully matching centers. After stitching, remove stitches in the seam allowance. This will allow the seams to be pressed flat (see illustration 4).

Illustration 4When blocks are complete, divide them into two equal piles of six each. Using the Easy Rule II and rotary cutter, carefully trim light corners from one pile and dark corners from the other (see illustration 5).

Assemble blocks following diagram for placement. Sew side borders onto quilt first, then sew top and bottom borders to quilt.
