Chain piecing is sewing a series of components by continuously feeding them through the sewing machine without breaking the thread (see illustration at right). This method saves time.

Cut five strips 1 1/2" x 44" of white
Cut one strip 3 1/2" x 44" of blue

Sew a 1 1/2" blue strip to both sides of each 1 1/2" white strip to make five border strip sets. Cut two 33 1/2" top and bottom borders. Piece to get two 48 1/2" side borders.
