Cutting Directions
FROM CUT TO YIELD
Red Plaid 5 2" strips
2 3 1/2" strips 20 Tri triangles
2 2 1/4" x 35 1/2" Borders*
2 2 1/4" x 39" Borders*
Blue Plaid 5 2" strips
4 3 1/2" strips 20 Tri triangles

4 6 1/2" x 3 1/2" rectangles
16 3 1/2" squares
2 1/4" bias strips Binding to make approx. 160"
Tan Plaid 5 2" strips 40 Tri-Mate triangles
2 1 1/2" x 33 1/2" Borders*
2 1 1/2" x 35 1/2" Borders*
1 3 1/2" strip 5 3 1/2" squares
*These numbers are mathematically correct; adjust as needed.
Assembly Directions
Stitch together 5 sets of 2" blue plaid and red plaid strips. Press the seam towards the blue. Cut these sets apart into sections.

Illustration 3The 2" sections are sewn into 16 checkerboards. Press the seam open.

Illustration 4Stitch eight of the checkerboards to eight of the 3 1/2" sections with the checkerboard on the left hand side. The remaining eight are stitched to the right hand side of eight 3 1/2" sections. Press seams towards the checkerboards.

Illustration 5Sew sixteen 3 1/2" sections to the 3 1/2" squares of blue plaid, pressing the seams towards the plaid squares.

Illustration 6Assemble the corner units for the star blocks by sewing the sections together, as shown in the diagram. Press the seam open.

Illustration 7Sew together hourglass units for the star points by sewing twenty 3 1/2" Tri triangles to twenty 2" Tri-Mate triangles. Press the seams towards the Tri triangles. Referring to the photo for color placement, assemble twenty hourglass units. Press the final seam open.

Illustration 8Assemble four star blocks in rows using the corner units, sixteen hourglass units, and four 3 1/2" tan squares. There will be four hourglass units left over. Press the seams in opposing directions.

Four sashings are assembled by sewing an hourglass unit together with a 3 1/2" section of blue plaid and red plaid (from the first step), a 6 1/2" x 3 1/2" blue plaid rectangle. Press the seams open.

EZ Quilting Scottish Stars QuiltRefer to the completed quilt diagram to assemble the entire quilt in rows. The center star is formed when the four star blocks are sewn together with the sashings and a center 3 1/2" tan square. Add the inner 1 1/2" border of tan, followed by the 2 1/4" red plaid border. Quilt as desired, binding with 2 1/4" bias strips cut from the blue plaid.
